Cobalt Construction is seeking a full time Parts Runner who will report directly to our Parts and Service Managers. This role will be in charge of picking up/dropping off and delivering parts from local vendors and job sites. This role will also help clean and organize parts department as needed and perform other shop labour duties as well.

This position is well suited to those who are mechanically inclined and familiar with the Whitehorse area

Project Manager

Cobalt Construction Inc is looking to add experienced and enthusiastic Project Managers to our family. Full-time year-round positions with competitive wages are available to those who qualify

Responsibilities:

Project Managers must be able to work independently and collaboratively with head office to maintain communication with clients and ensure projects are finished to their complete satisfaction. Ideal individuals for this role will be able to work independently, work within a project team, take direction, maintain a project schedule and will have in-depth experience managing client reps.

Successful applicants will be involved in the entire job cycle including estimating, bidding, schedule building, budget projection and maintenance throughout the job.

Daily duties during high season will include managing: sub-contractors, materials, supply chains, labour and equipment, production targets, coordination of testing and inspections, QA/QC, capture change directives with immediate action.

Project managers are expected to: identify and implement efficiencies, controlling project costs; strict adherence to safety program; promote team building and mentoring/skill development.

Required Credentials and Skills To Be Included In Resume

  • Professional Engineering designation that is valid in Yukon Territory is an asset
  • Extensive hands-on experience in both infrastructure and mining projects, minimum 5 years in a Senior Management role. Clearly demonstrate experience participating as a key member of a project team

In preparation for a very busy season ahead Cobalt is hiring for a wide variety of positions both seasonal and year-round:

Fleet Maintenance Manager Applicants must have a Minimum of five years’ Heavy Equipment Service Management experience to qualify. This position reports to the President and works directly with Parts Manager as well as Mechanical and Site Service teams. Position involves organizing and maintaining a preventive maintenance schedule for our extensive fleet, assessing priorities and delegating workload to mechanics.

Accounting Clerks Applicants must be able to demonstrate past accounting/finance experience. This position reports to the Office Manager and work with directly Payroll Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk and reception. The main priority of this individual will be to provide support to the Accounting Team to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial information.

Road Construction Supervisor Ability to coordinate and work with Project Owners and Head Office staff while managing all aspects of multifaceted projects and constantly changing demands. This includes but is not limited to staffing, equipment, materials, scheduling, environmental and socio-economic concerns. Successful applicants will lead and motivate their crew with efficiency and meticulous safety consciousness. Team leads will enforce all company policies and diplomatically implement disciplinary measures when needed. Applicants must demonstrate extensive experience building highways to final grade in a supervisory role.

Fuel and Lube Servicemen Successful applicants will have own tools and experience servicing all types of off highway equipment. Applicants must be willing to work on various sites around the Yukon and be comfortable with working out of town for long periods of time. Must be able to work independently with little direction and be able to coordinate with Parts Manager to proactively order supplies.

Heavy Duty Mechanics Successful applicants may be journeymen or apprentices with experience in newer heavy equipment and all aspects of Earth moving equipment and tractor trailers. Must be able to inspect, isolate, diagnose and repair all aspects of off highway heavy equipment. Must be able to work independently with little direction and be able to coordinate with Parts Manager to proactively order parts. We have outfitted mechanic’s trucks that are ready to roll, just looking for the right candidates to take them out to site for the season.

Truck Mechanics Cobalt Construction Inc is seeking long-term, full-time truck and automotive Mechanics to work from our shop in Whitehorse, Yukon. Certified Mechanics and qualified Mechanical Apprentices are encouraged to apply for positions that are available immediately. Duties will include inspecting, isolating, diagnosing and repairing all aspects of highway vehicles and trailers. Must be able to perform regular maintenance/service, annual inspections and CVIPs. Successful applicants will be able to work both on a team and independently.

Heavy Equipment Operators Experience in road construction and open pit mining is required. Minimum 5 years’ experience on any of the following: Hoe, Dozer, Grader, Buggy Skinners and Rock Truck. Must be able to pass a pre-access drug test in order to qualify for camp work. Applicants must be comfortable with working on a remote camp job for long periods of time.

Class 1 End and Belly Dump Drivers Applicants must have valid Class 1 license with air brakes endorsement, extensive experience running End and Belly dumps on road construction projects in a heavy traffic environment. Applicants will be subjected to pre-employment safety screening. Applicants may be in a remote camp for long periods of time. Please provide current abstract with application.

Traffic Control Personnel Applicants must have a valid TCP ticket that does not expire through the 2023 season and a valid Class 5 license. Positions may be in Whitehorse or in a camp setting and be road side flagging or operating pilot truck through a construction site.

Construction Labourers Applicants must be comfortable working outside in all conditions and able to life 70lbs. Previous experience on a heavy civil site is an asset but not required.

Occupational First Aid Level 3 Attendants Applicants must have a valid Occupational First Aid ticket (or higher) that does not expire through the 2020 work season. Preferential hiring is offered to those who also have a valid Traffic Control person ticket and or experience operating heavy equipment. Experience working in remote settings is an asset.

Camp Cooks and Cleaners Applicants must have experience cooking for and maintaining a 40+man camp is an asset. Applicants must be comfortable living/working remotely. Must be able to organize supplies, ordering, create menus, prepare food to all health standards and organize camp cleaning and maintenance.

Rigid Frame Rock Truck Drivers

Applicants will be comfortable running 773’s, 775’s and 777’s in an open pit mine setting. Current schedule is 3 weeks in, 3 weeks out with opportunitiy to work at other sites on days off if the full 3 weeks off is not required and a suitable position can be found at another site.

Applicants must be:

  • Able to demonstrate their experience and skills
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug test
  • Proof of covid vaccination record is required for site access

Construction Operations Manager

Cobalt Construction Inc. is looking to add an experienced Construction Operations Manager to our family. This role will be based in Whitehorse, Yukon and will oversee operations on sites operating across Northern Canada. Successful applicants will be self-motivated and able to work collaboratively with a variety of teams operating simultaneously.

  • 40 hours/week (can vary)

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support business in achieving its turnover growth plans; oversee commercial performance from tender submissions through project completion
  • Produce and manage monthly project performance reporting; Take lead role in communicating information and spearhead any necessary changes to increase efficiency 
  • Identify and pursue bid opportunities and meet with potential clients to build successful relationships; Respect, foster and maintain relationships with local First Nation governments and development corporations
  • Involvement in the initial stages of project tendering ensuring all project risks are accounted; Gathering quotes for subcontractors and materials required
  • Create, maintain and monitor project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures
  • Organize, attend and participate in stakeholder meetings. Chair and facilitate meetings where appropriate and distribute minutes to all project team members 
  • Document and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings; assign tasks to project team as needed 
  • Take the lead in the operational management of sites, including coordinating with the team in the office and requesting their involvement where needed 
  • Oversee the successful delivery of client contracts to their satisfaction, ensuring communication is available at all times. Manage efficiency of labour, plant and materials and on time delivery across all projects
  • Lead company-wide Environmental, Health and Safety program. Educate teams where needed and improve programs annually to stay relevant
  • Lead by example demonstrating positive attitude and behaviours; Initiate mentoring programs where applicable; Team build and reward strong performances on a regular basis; Support employee retention programs
  • Support the business in achieving its service standards key performance indicators by ensure all projects under your leadership consistently achieve the business KPI performance measures with 95% overall compliance by ensuring these are areas that your team are held accountable for
  • Assist with recruitment based on ever changing needs; Ensure all new employees are properly inducted, support training and development programs, encouraging all employees to progress their skills
  • Support and Direct the business in the delivery of all ad hoc projects as identified through the business goals and objectives growth plans.

Essential Skills / Qualifications include: 

  • Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in a Construction Related Discipline
  • Experienced in Contract Review, Negotiation & Management throughout the project lifecycle 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experienced in Programming jobs through MicroSoft Project
  • Experienced in the use of all Microsoft office Software
  • 10 + Years Post Graduate Experience required

Cobalt Construction Inc. is looking to add experienced and enthusiastic P.Eng, EIT or CETs with Project Coordination experience to our family. Full-time, year-round positions with competitive wages are available to those who qualify.

Project Coordinators must be able to work independently and collaboratively with the head office team to maintain communication with clients and ensure projects are finished to their complete satisfaction. You will be working within a larger project team as well as closely with in-field teams.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in entire job cycle including estimating, bidding, scheduling, budget projection
  • Create/maintain project schedules and direct project works under Project Managers for several projects
  • Assist project managers with administrative processes
  • Price and source materials, supplies and sub-contractors
  • Through project duration manage sub-contractors, materials, supply chains, labour and equipment, production targets, coordination of testing and inspections, QA/QC
  • Prepare contracts, invoices, Traffic Management Plans, Environmental Management Plans, WCB pre-project assessments, approve payments etc.
  • Project costing analysis; Manage deliverables and capture change directives with immediate action all the while communicating effectively with all stakeholders involved
  • Ensure documentation is maintained throughout project cycle
  • Interpret project plans to ensure project development is meeting spec
  • Survey experience is an asset

Truck and Trailer Mechanic Seeking long term, full time Truck and Trailer Mechanics to work from our shop in Whitehorse. Relocation bonuses are available OR fly in/fly out rotations of 4 weeks in, 2 weeks out with onsite accommodation provided. Flexible rotations can be agreed upon.

Hourly wage up to $45/hr based on experience. Mechanics can expect 12 hrs a day and overtime. Extended benefits packages available for long term, full time employees.
